Thank you. Comparing an artist that puts out an album with "Honeymoon" as the first single to mainstream pop stars is ludicrous. Born to Die was an outlier once in a career era for her. It was never going to happen again and her sound has become way less accessible too.

Lana Del Rey makes pop music, with pop structures. Every song is verse / chorus / verse / chorus / bridge / chorus. She's as basic as any other pop singer musically. The only distinction I've seen has been her image and even that is accessible to the GP, they just don't use it.

Lana is ndef not a pop artist.

But that's her own doing though. She can promote her stuff, just like most of other mainstream artists. She is a mainstream artist with a solid fan base, she should be doing much better.

Plenty of rock songs also have that structure, it doesn't mean they are "pop" She is alternative pop really. Not the same as "any other pop singer", by which most people are going to assume you mean Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Britney, etc etc.

I discovered Lana in September 2011 before she was big after Pitchfork had "Video Games" as their Best New Music. No one knew anything about her and it seemed she would just be another cute indie girl with a great song who plays a couple of festivals and is then totally forgotten. When it went Top 10 in the UK I was floored and so happy for her, and then she BLEW up over the next couple of months. But it always seemed like a great surprise and something amazing happening, not like she was conceived to be popular. Her current sales are much more in line with what I expected from the start, so I have a hard time seeing her as unsuccessful now.

Yeah, that's what I think too. Her music just isn't sticking with the masses. Part of the reason I think is because her sound is very monotonous.

Mm, but most rock songs these days ARE generic. She is the not the female Father John Misty that her fans seem to believe. Are you honestly going to tell me that High By The Beach is as left-field as Grimes or FKA Twigs? And Ultraviolence is just a diet version of Turn Blue by the Black Keys. The supposedly anti-mainstream sounds that she's been dabbling in ARE popular.

I have to say though, HBTB & MTWBT were kinda nice. They grew on me a lil.

Ultraviolence was a pretty amazing and brave thing to do on her part. She could have (and was under so much pressure to) made a Born to Die 2.0 but she put out this hostile album that repelled all the casual fans.

And fomos saying Lana's music has the same structure as your typical pop tune have truly never listened to Ultraviolence
