Except there's been a huge groundswell of support here for E•MO•TION since it leaked in June (two months before it even got its first review).

I do agree with Diarrhoea in that I think that Art Angels its acclaim stems a bit from pro-pop but also anti-mainstream critical posturing (like, say, Robyn's Body Talk), but I'd add that it does have some genuinely great tracks (unlike, say, Robyn's Body Talk). I just think the adoration would've been better spent on Visions.

I'm not sure I agree with you about Body Talk, but I do like what you have to say about Grimes potentially getting a critical boost by being pop, but not too pop.

I do like the new Grimes album, I am not sure if I like it more than Visions or Halfaxa yet, but it is solid. It's not my personal favorite of the year, but I think it does stand out in a year when there wasn't much to get excited about pop-wise and in context the album looks better, which may explain the praise.

I feel as if since maybe late last year (well it's really happening this year) we're getting our full wave of "poptimism" basically meaning pop is cooler to the critics, which is why so many "alt" acts are going full pop recently. I mean I'm a huge pop fan so I'm just enjoying it. I agree that's why Robyn got acclaim tho even if I stan for her music (and she released one of my fave EPs this year)

I do think it's a tiny little bit overrated, since it does have a couple of songs that either aren't all that great or get old fast. Might be a side effect of experimenting and trying out so many different sounds, though, which I appreciate, so it's all good. Still easily (HEE hee HEE hee HEE heee EEE ) my favorite album this year, though.

I respect and love that its really her project. Her production, lyrics, art, etc. I think thats ****ing sick and she is ****ing sick BUT I really didn't care for the direction she took with her sound. This bubblegummy colorful blatantly pop avenue wasnt what I personally wanted to hear from her and considering that I think a few of the songs are some of the worst shes ever made (California, Scream, Easily, etc), Id have to say I do think the album is overrated but not Grimes herself, I think she deserves every bit of acclaim and cred she receives as an artist.

EXACTLY how I feel. Visions was far more deserving of this immense acclaim. I was kind of dumbstruck by the overwhelming amount of positivity art angels has achieved. i think it has to do with the fact that visions explored her pop sound less blatantly, its easier for people to latch onto art angels because its easier for certain people who would not have normally been into grimes to be like "okay, I can accept this".

I'm leaning towards yes basing on the few tracks I've heard so far but I'm gonna listen to the whole album couple of times before I cast my final vote
