Keep in mind also that labels had virtually stopped releasing singles in 2000, which left no choice but to have the customer buy the entire album for just one song. "Bye Bye Bye" was eventually released on the clumsy 12" vinyl configuration, but neither a CD nor a Cassette version of the single was released here in the US.
That's why
No Strings Attached had such a huge first week. A physical single was released for "It's Going To Be Me," and that song actually reached #1 on the Hot 100 -- N'Sync's only #1 (BBB peaked at #4), but BBB is I'm fairly certain remembered as the bigger of the two songs.
Hello on the other hand has already sold 2.6 million downloads, and much of 25's sales will come from the brick-and-mortar retailers, because Adele's music appeals to such a wide range of ages.
