Because the entire show is predicated on the departure being an isolated occurrence. It makes perfect sense for them to veer from that model in terms of long-term viability of the show, but certainly the departure of the girls in Jarden was the first time anyone has mentioned or even suspected subsequent departures in the show. The plot hole is in how a whole theory of scientific lensing, specifically with regard to subsequent departures around lenses managed to evolve in this world, which until just the other day, had no concept of subsequent departures.
