I don't see the use in dropping the T considering the LGBT community and all of their accomplishments was pioneered by trans people. This petition is obviously transphobic. Everybody who signed this petition is disgusting just like everybody agreeing with it in this thread.
LGBT aren't grouped together because of sexual orientation, but because all of the people in that group experience prejudice based on the fact we are gender deviant. Trans people as much as gay people deviate from the roles and expectations set out for them by their assigned gender; for LGB people is the people they love being different from their gender expectations and for trans people its how they identify with their gender.
Aside from this their is an illusion amongst oppressed groups; BAME, women, queer people etc that equality can apply to just one group of people. Gays achieving equality is only really equality if it includes everyone else. To assume our rights as more important, or to be ignorant to other peoples oppressed rights and freedoms is to be just as bad as the people who deny us our rights.
Don't be that person.
Exactly. Also, I think that fighting for the rights of transgender people gives us a huge stepping stone into breaking the barriers of prejudice we confront as a whole because it's the toughest one to make people understand. At least I think that's true in western society.
The fact that this petition totally ignores that some of the founders of the "gay community" are trans people and that pride parades literally would not be a thing if it were for the people at Stonewall like Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson.
