From the leaked nudes of the 80's to the infamous SEX book to her open political and social views in her work, Is astonishing how much Madonna got away with and still manage be a famous active artist to this day. Why do you think that is? Why was she so successful at expressing her self thru her Art?

She had the good music and bops to back it all up. Also she knows when she goes too far and it's time to take a step back.

Because after some time, people got used to associating her with controversy, so it, in a way, kinda stopped being as shocking as it's supposed to be I guess

She definitely didn't get away with it. I know cuz I was there. Everybody HATED her. But she was such a force, and ageism didn't exist yet on American radio, that they still played her Erotica singles cuz her fanbase was so huge. But the GP was totally turned off. That's why she came back with I'll Remember, and a smart, safe move that was. Then Bedtime Stories. She wasn't the leading lady anymore cuz Mariah was on the scene, but it kept her on the charts and in the good graces of the GP. Then she took it further to calm things down with Something To Remember, and that helped. Then Evita, and then childbirth gave us Ray of Light.

But she made some serious calculated moves that benefited her a lot. She's a smart woman.

It mostly comes down to the fact that she found a way to progress from topic to topic. She aligned her controversies very well.

First she opened the door to sexual discussion with Like a Virgin, that allowed her to transition to topics like marriage, pregnancy (Papa Don't Preach), which then opened the door to addressing the Church directly (Truth Or Dare) which eventually led to political activism. To her credit, she always made sure her music had a message attached to it, until recently.
