It was a very exciting week: 'Hello', Adele's new single and the first sign from her upcoming album '25', started with outstanding sales around the globe. In the USA for example the song sold record-breaking 1,112,000 downloads, globally nearly two millions. These are the biggest weekly sales by a song in the 21st century so far! During the complete music-history this record was overtaken only two times with charity songs: 'We Are The World' by USA For Africa started with over 2 million sales in the week 13, 1985 and 'Candle In The Wind' by Elton John reached more than 4,5 million sales in the week 41, 1997. 'Hello' starts with massive 1,531,000 points easily at the summit this week, so it's the first time since the start of Mediatraffic's weekly Top 40 in January 1999, that a song gets more than one million points in a single week. In two weeks Adele's album will be released and it's absolutely clear that '25' starts also with outstanding sales. According to industry-suggestions the long-awaited set could sell more than 3 million copies in its first week... it would be a new all-time record! The current record-holder is Japanese pop star Hikaru Utada. Her album 'Distance' was released at March 28, 2001 and sold 3,002,720 copies in its first week, according to Oricon... enough for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. Adele's former albums climbing back on the global tally, '19' moved to no.44 with 14,000 sales and '21' jumps at no.12 with 36,000 sales
