People made jokes about them, sure but all three of them were still WIDELY and HEAVILY respected and adored as artists and musicians
Thank You!
MJ was universally loved, probably more than any artist during his prime, which is why he is so universally loved now. He couldn't have just garned all of those fans over night on June 25. The people in here crack me up
He was mocked and ridiculed before his death, especially during the late 2000s but the important thing is that nobody mocked or ridiculed his talent. He was still held in high regard as a musician and an artist.
Outside of US Janet is only known as a 'the only popular in America MJ's sister who showed boobs on national TV' so to say that Britney is more known nowadays is not a stretch
Basically. Britney Spears is one of the major landmarks in pop culture of recent times. She defines the modern pop star and modern pop music. She defines the rise and fall of the modern star. She defines the modern comeback. She defines the modern female beauty standard.
Janet, as big as she was, was never anything comparable. It was impossible for her, because she always had to deal with being "MJ's sister" first.
Whitneys and MJs personal lives may have been a mess but people still respected their body of work as well as there talent. No one cares about Britney outside of her stans.
"Spirit fingers" lmao. MJ's moonwalk performance is literally him lipping to the backtrack while stomping his feet and popping his legs a bit. It's only praised because of the moonwalk debut Britney was a Janet clone and their style of dance was nearly identical. You can't give Janet a pass and then call Britney's choreo spirit fingers and hairflips when they're almost identical in technique
Lmaooooo Britney was nothing like Janet no matter how hard she tried. And their styles were not remotely identical whatsoever. Britney was more of a cutesy, trying to be hot, cheerleader ish type of dancer. Janet's moves and choreography were far more intricate, hard hitting and difficult than Britney's.
None of those performances you posted proved anything. They were cute but the difficulty level isn't as high as say, Rythmn Nation or something of the sort.
No, the US being her biggest market is something that only matters/is really acknowledged on ATRL.
Actually what he said was the absolute truth. Most people outside NA know Janet primarily for being Michaels sister. I mean we do know she had a music career but couldn't tell you what it consisted of.
MJ was literally the biggest pop star of all time of course he's gonna sell out concerts, especially since he has such a hardcore fanbase and hadn't toured in over 10 years He has the nostalgia factor as well. His music reminded tons of people of their childhood, high school years, etc.

Bingo. Even during her prime Britney was never celebrated for her "talent," let alone right now.

I'm not refuting that point at all because it is true. I very much doubt people my age who aren't actively interested in pop culture and pop culture history would even be able to name a Janet song. Which is sad.
But her being known as "only popular in the US" by the average non-North American person? Don't be foolish.
