Ashanti was also the Princess of R&B; it seems like this title always changes because none of these girls have had longevity on the charts sing the sweet/innocent girl shtick which makes a Princess a princess.
The only reason people still claim Aaliyah as the princess of R&B because she died young & thus cemented her legacy. Meanwhile, Brandy, Ashanti, Monica and other "Princesses" flopped.

I never understood why people always bring up Brandy to try and diminish Aaliyah's accomplishments. They were two different artists who appealed to two whole seperate markets. Does what Mj accomplished diminish Prince? Does TLC's accomplishments eliminates Destiny's child's success? Does Mariah's hits erase Whitney Houston's achievements?
There were artists who couldnt even achieve half of what Aaliyah did, so I dont see the point in you bringing up Brandy everytime Aaliyah is mentioned. Taylor Swift is currently slaying Bey in overall sales and music relevance, that doesnt take away from anything Bey has done though right? Exactly. Move.
