Discussion: Did 1D decline after midnight memories?

I feel like their first album was ok, generic and stuff. Take me home was so cute and good. Midnight memories has their best songs in terms of quality, they didn't even sound childish on that record, but then four came out and meh, steal my girl was like the same we've had heard from them before, same with drag me down, like no evolution. Do you agree?

Those two songs are overrated and boring, they've done better music.

Two songs doesn't negate the solid cohesion of TMH tho. And only SOML is great.

I agree. FOUR mainly sounds like a MM" leftover to me.
I was happy when I discovered "Drag Me Down" 'cause they incorpored new influences.

& no they have actually been growing better & better with each album, FOUR so far being their very best
but MitAM is already seeming like it is gonna slay FOUR so i cannot wait

& to everyone trying to "act cool" or w/e & pretend that all of 1D's albums sound the same is just embarrassing themselves cos MM & FOUR sound nothing like UAN & TMH or one another

It's true, Midnight Memories was their first horrible album and it seems like they haven't managed to make better music since then. Good thing Zayn saw the opportunity and quickly left.

Obviously they declined after MM, just look at the sales drop from MM to FOUR. They'll probably have another decline between FOUR and their newest one. This is definitely the end for them, they're an act that solely relies on their fanbase (which is dwindling) and doesn't get much radio or GP support, they become a lot less profitable. Harry Styles will probably embark on his solo career in late 2016.
