Sis, but this is Woman of the Year, not Artist of the Year. All you listed is music stats. Plus billboard may not support the women hating on another women thigs.
i mean, let's be honest...... there haven't been a lot of women doing much this year, it was pretty male dominated overall
Gaga (i guess?) makes sense because who were they gonna give it to..? Madonna? Ciara? Azealia Banks? i mean **** Taylor Swift can't win it EVERY damn year
2016 will have more contenders if Rihanna, Adele, Katy, Ariana, Zendaya are all competing. Gaga likely won't be able to keep up with them once they actually release so it's best she gets the distinction now
Rihanna released this year... Don't try to pretend she didn't. She just wasn't up to par! I won't even address the others you listed. think up something else and come back!
Gaga should have gotten this in 2010 rather than Fergie. Happy that Billboard has finally chosen to honor Gaga.
To Katycats: Katy hasn't even done anything this year. She also won it in 2012.
To Swifties: Homegirl won it in 2014 AND 2011. This isn't the "Thanks for Being Taylor Swift" award.

You're comparing a woman who released three singles and a sock/shoe campaign to a woman who was non-stop trying to rebuild her name back in a positive limelight with all her branching out to television and such. A sock doesn't make for a "Woman of the Year."
It's something commonly practiced in the music business. Music manager's would pay a lot of money for good P.R and Billboard would gladly accept the money
