This is an Airplay chart. I don't think there was way to measure any kind of airplay before 1992. Billboard only mentions Hot 100 chart before 1992 whenever I search for Pop chart

According to Wikipedia Billboard started tracking airplay in 1984. The #1s shown there are also slightly different to the Hot 100 #1s.

Yes the genre specific airplay charts started in 1992, but I guess for 8 years before that there was an overall airplay chart.
