My description of why America is racist
This country was built on racism. Can we all agree on that? Slavery... Ok now that that's understood. This country functions on white supremacy. The belief that white people are superior. We are trained to think that only white is good. We see negative images of non-white people on the media, there's a lack of diversity in films and when there's diversity, characters of color play stereotypical roles, in education we are taught that white people are basically the best (you have states trying to ignore the heinous actions white people have committed in history in school administered textbooks), most rough areas are usually areas with black or latino people (this is on purpose btw look up the government bringing cocaine to minority communities in the 80s), im barely scratching the surface of issues btw. All of these lead to the belief that the way white people act and live is superior and in order to be successful you have to assimilate like them. This is all racism. Most white people don't realize or understand any of what I am saying. That's because they have grown up in a racial bubble where they don't have to confront any truths about race. That's why I say all white people are racist until they unlearn everything white supremacy have taught them since birth. This is why America is racist and functions on racism. Tell me why black and latino men are more likely to be arrested for drug charges than white people when in fact white people use drugs at a higher rate. Racism. Why are black people still getting denied house loans? Racism. Why do communities of color have less resources such as well funded schools, hospitals, grocery stores, etc..? Racism. Why are white sounding names more likely to get a job offer than black sounding names? Racism. I could literally do this all day. Race is, dare I say, the biggest problem in this country. Until white people begin to truly realize the injustices people of color face everyday and stop trying to deny an experience they don't have, we can't advance. I have a problem with white supremacy, not white people. However if those white people are upholding white supremacy, they are on my ****-list as well.
If you are white, a good book to read is White Fragility by Robin Diangelo or just look her up and watch some of her videos and check her out. I know you are less likely to listen to me because I'm black
and on ATRL, so listen to someone else who is white and gets it.
