Poor Iris getting dragged left and right. I would try watching Unova again to see why, but
My favorite seasons of the anime are Hoenn and Sinnoh, so May and Dawn slay me accordingly But they're both contest queens so I guess that means I'm a true gay.
1. Iris
2. May
3. Misty
4. Serena
5. Clemont
6. Cilan
7. Brock
8. Dawn
9. Max
10. Bonnie
11. Tracey
Iris is first because she didn't just slot into the "oooooh pretty girly coordinator" shtick and actually got her hands dirty (Dragonite, Excadrill, was actually a proficient battler, when she took down that Hydreigon with her own body>>>>>)
May second only because she was the OG coordinator and she could battle, too.
Misty would've been higher had she not just been a straight-up bitch in the first season and then relegated to babysitter once Togepi arrived. Too large of an extreme.
Serena is cute I guess.
Clemont is by far the least annoying male companion.
Cilan's talk about connoisseur-ing was agg af
Brock was just not funny and grating by the time he left. His running gag wasn't even funny, just creepy and cringy.
Dawn is so ****ing boring. A May clone with none of the spunk and with Max mannerisms
Speaking of Max, annoying af. Why was he in the anime again?
Bonnie is just the same as Max but I guess he was first, so he ranks higher for not being a rehash.
And I just don't remember Tracey.
Tracy was a non pervy Brock who sketched but was kinda annoying in his idealism
Iris is actually a strong trainer and for the first time in the series DEMONSTRATES the "love and kindness and commitment and friendship to your pokemon!!!111!!!" that female companions always go on and on about. Bitch restrains a Hydreigon while it's beating the **** out of her. That's metal. When will Dawn? When will May? The closest any of Ash's companions have gotten to that is Misty calming down the Gyarados in one of those Chronicle episodes.
I'm sorry but no rival will ever top Paul. He seriously pushed Ash to his limits and the writers actually did a great job building his storyline, fooling you into thinking that he was a new trainer only to find out he has traveled just as much as Ash, and even when the viewer is made to think he's overtraining his pokemon or being cruel, he's actually just training his pokemon in the same way as Ash. And then BOTH of their 6v6 matches were perfect especially the EPIC Infernape v Electivire match. King Paul might never be dethroned tbh
