I don't think this ever happens and, frankly, people can like whatever they want.
Not everyone relentlessly cares about being tacky (although I am not one of the careless ones).
Those songs are penned by men/women on their 40s, I don't see the issue, and many teen acts have amazing songs that are better than any song a grown up could do (1D have some songs better than Katy's lead singles)

Girlfriend -> When You're Gone -> Hot -> Innocence. She would've gotten that fourth hit.
