Reckless is my favourite after the first listen this album surprised me but I like it

I'm on my first listen right now. I like Criminals

I don't think the album is bad, I just think that there's nothing really special here. Honestly, that's kind of how I felt about Secondhand Rapture as well. Lizzy's got an good voice, but nothing really sets them apart from the other 15 synth/dream-pop bands that have a front-woman because they all seem to have that same voice. Not that they all sound exactly the same, I just think that they all sound TOO similar. Sadly, whenever the chorus hits in their songs, I find the instrumentals to be almost drowned out by her vocals to the point that the songs tend to blend together. The only track I use off this album is Wrong Victory. What a beautiful track. The rest? The rest you could find on any Chvrches or Little Daylight song, which (imo) are better.

For those still wondering, MNDR played a part in Tripolar and Tove Lo played a part in Pieces. At least according to AllMusic.

Still letting myself digest this album a bit before I comment on it but I'm finding myself really liking Tripolar from the new songs and no one's commented on it yet.

i kinda agree. apart from the first 5 tracks and maybe the closing track, secondhand rapture is as underwhelming as this.

MTE. Wrong Victory is in my Top 10 of the best songs of 2015. This album is not bad. It's weak.

Ok so I just listened to it a couple times and I'd say that I'm quite disappointed.

I think I like maybe four or five songs including 'Painted' (which I hated at first listen) so that says it all really.
It's not a bad album, it's not good either, it's just weak especially compared to 'Secondhand Rapture' which ***** all over this in terms of production and melodies.

That's actually my biggest problem with this album, I feel like they tried too hard to make the songs interesting or even 'weird'.
Like, in some songs I had the feeling that it would be a great track, it was building up but then the (pre-)chorus started and they made it all weird to the point where I was like uhm... why didn't you do it this way?
Also her voice on some of the songs is quite annoying, that's the first time actually that I'm noticing this, never had a problem with it in their debut.

Another thing are the lyrics, which are ridiculously long/difficult most of the time.
Sometimes it's even so bad that you barely can remember what the song's about.
And I'm not saying that rich lyrics are bad, not at all but they do make pop music and you have to tone it down at some point to actually make it actually imo.
That's def. a point where their debut album didn't fail, it had great lyrics but just enough to actually make it catchy.

I know I'm focussing on the catchy stuff a bit but they are a pop duo at the end of the day and they're quite educated on pop music in general so I feel like they messed up a bit with this album and it's sad because I know that they are capable of making a better album.
Maybe they were rushed or something?
If I remember correctly they had their studio equipment stolen or something during the recording process?
Maybe that's why this is so weak, anyways it doesn't matter, they could've done better.

One positive thing for me about this whole era are the visuals and imagery which is on point though.
But that makes me more pissed off that that's better than the album itself.

Y'all are doing the most on this album I went in expecting a huge mess based on the comments here but I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a bad album at all.

I loved their first album, but I don't like this at all I'm really disappointed

I've given it a few listens and I'm really disappointed. Agreeing with the critics that this album as a whole is nothing special.

tripolar is the best

Really disappointed with this :/ Nothing is offensive it's just bland and forgettable. Love Criminals though

the second half is unfortunately forgettable to me. I have listened to the full album 10+ times now, but I can't remember what some of the songs sound like.
Criminals is amazing & the first 5 songs in general are good though.
