Not everyone in the thread predicting the mental illness excuse.

Isn't it more likely than not that someone is mentally ill or do you think it's natural for someone to shoot people in a movie theater?

He was obviously mentally ill and his race has nothing to do with the attack.

Well there's reports saying that he's a white supremacist and supports anti-gay organizations. This wasn't a hate crime or anything but in general that sounds like a person of hate to me. He has a history of mental issues but he also had plans of this shooting and escaping, so they're still trying to put the pieces together.

I'm pretty sure most of us here believe that there is something wrong with anyone that commits these kind of acts and this mans race has nothing to do with the crime. But to explain the previous posts in this thread... people also know that it wouldn't be depicted as mental illness if it were someone of a minority race. That's the media's fault because they shape peoples perceptions on race when it comes to crime - if it were a Muslim we'll automatically question terrorism before mental illness or if it were a black man he'd just be a thug, we wouldn't care if he was mentally ill. So when the reports described him as a white male and used the term "lone wolf" we already knew where this was going before more details were given out. A sob story from the family and the mental illness cop-out for a mass shooting.

No its not. I work for Cineplex, were looking for weapons, and recording devices. Nobody cares about outside food. We all know y'all sneak it in, we just don't give any ****s.

I read over this a few times and I think we agree so I don't want to get in to a long winded write up except I want to say that I personally think, regardless of color or religion, when things like this happen there is an underlying mental illness at play. Mentally ill is not an excuse. It does not mean they are insane, unless the doctors determine that is the case, otherwise they are aware of their actions and could have chosen a different path.

Well you don't work for Cineplex here. I've brought in food and cameras many a time and I never go to the big screen without a knife or two.
