I can give you 2 pieces of advice though
1 - Don't force the selection. Pick a song you truly admire, not a song you think will be easier to match. Cause if someone, for instance, uses Beyonce's 7 / 11 as a blueprint and matches it perfectly, they'll still flop. So pick a song that means something to you, a song that you genuinely adore and feel inspired by
2 - Set high goals. Don't go into the process thinking "I will NEVER reach this". Of course you won't. You're a brand new writer while the person who wrote that song has been practicing for years and probably didn't even write it alone. But you can always achieve the seemingly impossible, so don't do it with a defeated mentality cause then you're doomed.

Each judge has slightly different criteria, but I can tell you mine. I'll grade this basically like I did with the storytelling round. 70% for the quality of the song and 30% about how it connects with the blueprint. I will NOT judge you based on whether you matched / surpassed your blueprint, that is irrelevant to me. I'll just make sure to judge whether you actually used the song as a blueprint or not.
At the end of the day, you just can't go wrong with an exceptional song. So pick a top notch blueprint to deliver a (more, less or equally) top notch entry

But like, how do you decide if we actually made a blueprint? If my blueprint song is a song about roses and it uses a lot of metaphors, and I write a song about blueberries with a lot of metaphors is that succeeding? Or should I write a song about roses and not worry about metaphors? Do you get what I'm saying?
