Does anyone know what time the film is supposed to play in? The setting reminded me of the late 70's but seemed to be very current too.

The girl with glasses was annoying, but she was meant to be the ~deep hipster~ type because of the narratives she read throughout the film.
There is no set time frame, the director used set pieces from all different eras to create a timeless feeling (he's said that in interviews).
