Also Tymps I'm not sure if you saw fefe's comment but just on the two lyrics you didn't think felt right...
Quote:
Now you realize you can’t own me
Like a flag bound to your mast
|
This lyric is saying that he
can't own the subject, unlike a flag bound to his mast which he
does own.
Quote:
Should have realized as I melted
Like the ice that plagues your soul
|
Clarkson pointed out what you said too and I can definitely see how you could interpret it as the ice melting away and freeing his soul, but that's not how I intended it. There's a lyric in that verse about sheltering him from the cold, so he was once out in the cold and the ice was undetectable. But once the subject gets closer to him and is sheltered from the cold, the subject becomes aware of his icy soul. It's kind of confusing how it's worded I agree but I kept it because I liked the meaning I was going for, and I didn't know how to make it clearer.
That's why I added the word "plagues" in present tense to make it clear that the ice is very much still there, the "melted" was more just an analogy that ice melts rather than actually saying that the ice was melted, i.e. "flames burn" yet we know that they don't actually burn unless you get too close to them, so it's more like "flames have the capability to burn" or "ice has the ability to become melted".
Sorry I kind of confused myself there.
