Trying to be 'artistic' by making a 'pure album' with a whole theme together, and nothing that stands apart to avoid 'being a singles like artist' is dumb and gets you nowhere farther in the end. (Ultraviolence compared to BTD, TKAB compared to GKMC, Born this Way compared to The Fame/Monster)
Yes, ARTPOP and L4M had lesser sales even with a nice album that also had hits. But if they were a 'pure album' that had entirely no hits, they'd have sold even less, had no hits, and been considered a fall down the line anyways.
The public can act like they want quality, but at the end of the day success + hit singles plays a bigger role in your work being remembered than 'how much of an art is'.
BTW is still forgotten as hell, Ultraviolence never even happened, and TKAB will still be the lower album compared to GKMC in the future.
Do you get it now?

I truly don't agree with this.
Also, all those albums quoted were successful, I mean for deluded ATRL standards that we love to use to troll they are not, but they were very successful albums all of them.
