With the cover, I think iTunes' description hit the nail on the head. The artwork really does reflect the album. It's stripped back, in the open, just like the lyrics on this new record. And for once, Florence is looking directly at the camera. She's said herself that the previous two were about her in this fantastical land, hiding her true emotions behind metaphors. This album is about facing her realities and letting her grow from the lessons they teach her. It's completely logical now to see why they've used that photo.
I said in August when I first saw an image from the HBHBHB photo shoot (but at that time I didn't know it was for the new album) that Tom Beard captured Florence in a light I'd never seen before.
You could actually see in the picture that she was vulnerable, almost quivering with fear. But at the same time, it was a powerful image. She looked scared, but looked ready to tackle it. It makes total sense to me now, and I agree that the artwork is pretty awesome.
