Obviously, she is yet to release her true magnum opus. So, whatever.

I'd say that 1989 is more consistent, while Red's highs are very high dd, but its lows are very low.
I mean, in Red you can find State Of Grace, Holy Ground, Treacherous, All Too Well, etc. which are some of her best. But then you have the bonus tracks (except CBBH), the bonus tracks are really weak and bad (even though TMIK is kind of cute). Everything Has Changed was also a bit disappointing, and I don't really like I Almost Do.
In 1989, there are highs and only a few lows... Like for me, the only weak songs would be YAIL and WTNY, even though they're still cute.
Both albums are in the same level for me.

I sort of agree but I also think personally she isn't going to top Red (for me at least!)
I'm kind of ready for her next album already

This is what I have a problem with, when Swifties attempt to make 1989 seem more quality than it is by using these kind of receipts (Not dragging you! Honest!).
It's a pop album, yes, there's nothing wrong with that. But it has duds and it's not as groundbreaking as a lot of them seem to believe it is. I get that taste is subjective, but, honestly, what is on the album that hasn't been on any major pop girl releases of the past 10 years?
It was just because 2014 really was a mixed bag of releases. Red would be more deserving of a top 10 placement. 1989, top 40, maybe.
And Jorge, it's " on Red".

They're not as bad as the Taylor stans who try to push Speak Now as some modern masterpiece.

OMG I know. Like girl, we get that she wrote all the songs by herself. Well 2 of my faves have written their entire discography themselves so big deal

That comment was meant to tie in to what I said about year-end lists being a better indicator than metacritic.
I agree with you though! Red is most definitely better. Its more ambitious, has a better concept, and is better executed. But I also don't think its fair to discount her actual talents and leave it up to her being a 'critic darling'.
If it were up to me I'd put Red in the top ten of its year and 1989 in the top 20, maybe even have them switch places.

I think with the "critic darling" comment, what I mean is, she's the kind of artist who has had some acclaimed releases in the past, and is currently in that state of being considered "untouchable". 1989's Metacritic doesn't feel deserved (as Slayley said, a 65 would be more fitting), and a AOTY win definitely would not be deserved.
