For his defense water actually cost 6$ if you buy it at a concert arena but what he should of said was "Music became free, but people will pay 6$ for a coffee at Starbucks"
Music became almost free ever since radio first came out. Not everyone pays for bottled water. I'm happy to listen to ad-enabled Spotify. If writers don't get paid enough, it's the labels' problems, not Spotify's nor mine.
Whether it's $1, $10, or $100. If an artist wants to charge for you to consume their music, they should have that right. Am sick of seeing **** in here who have bought into an iPhone every two years, have a tablet, a laptop, and probably have a game system complaining about musicians not wanting their products to be for free.
Fact: You're always lining someone's pocket unless you milk your own cows and grow your own wheat.
Never have I encountered such entitlement except when it comes to things like Adobe software, MS Office Suites, online computer games, and music. All these things are still products. Just because you can potentially access them for free doesn't mean you SHOULD.
And pretending like you have the moral high ground cause these musicians are rich is one of the stupidest positions anyone can take. You people are literally stealing yet want to act dignified.
Artists get paid from ads on Spotify. I sacrificed my time to listen to somebody selling me products. This is also a form of opportunity cost.
Just because users don't pay for streaming, it doesn't mean they're stealing. Are we also stealing if we listen to radio stations?
