Diamonds hit #1 in the US with only 3 promotional performances. That shows the strenght of a single, if you NEED to promote a single for it to be successful than it wasn't meant to be

They usually go with someone with a cleaner/Hollywood friendly image.
People like Zoë Saldana, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Obama are more likely the type to make the Most Beautiful cover even though none are as conventionally pretty as Rih. Its mostly about beauty thats attainable. Julia Roberts has made that list almost every year since it was created. So there you go.
That magazine is mostly geared for models and athletes. Tyra Banks was the first black woman to land a cover and Beyoncé was the first singer.. granted it was the "Music issue". A SI cover is a pivotal achievement in a model's career. it MADE Kate Upton. literally.
