Akina Nakamori and Seiko Matsuda were still somewhat relevant when Namie hit the scene, but Namie took over and Akina and Seiko were done at the point. Let's not forget how popular hitomi was during the 90s as well.

The Korean version of "Girls on Top" is on BoA's last Korean studio album, released in 2005. The lyrics aren't the same, but I prefer the English version.

That's not even a fair comparison. Everyone knows that in Japan compilation albums sell more than studio albums. Utada came out with a new album and Namie came out with a compilation. Not even a fair comparison. Even at that, there wasn't much of a sales difference.

Just look @ the sales of BoA's 'BEST&USA' album.

Plus Ayumi's album was a complilation. Utada's wasn't but the fact is Namie WAS the highest selling female artist in Japan last year which put her back on the map.

Alright, say wut you want. You know that BoA's BEST&USA is the only exception.

^They are way more cases of studio albums selling more than best albums.
Not everytime an artist releases a best album in Japan it does extremely well but it does happen very often.
