I can totally understand Dereon and the frustration..
Tbh labels really lack confidence when it comes to urban artists.. They lack the enthusiasm for releases nowadays and its this that has really hurt alot of acts that are fading away pretty fast.
They are normally mighty undecided on first singles, often release the wrong material first and it forces them to go down the buzz single, promo song route and its this that makes the GP lose the enthusiasm, and that results in a loss of support... They need to start to learn what confidence means, make better choices for singles, and actually give them budgets that allow them to SELL. Any business man will say that confidence in the product has to come first BEFORE anything.. The thing is tho they are reluctant to pump funds into an artist that will not sell, so its vicious cycle that just keeps going around and around.
What i love about I Bet is that WITHOUT any money being spent (apart from an iTunes release, and sending it to Radio) its already holding up pretty strongly amongst the likes of Beyonce, Nicki, One Direction, Taylor, Ne-Yo etc.. If they continue like this and actually spend time and money on a good video, good strong promotion and PROVE to the public that they have every confidence in the single it will really make an impact..
The song has great crossover appeal and with Valentines Day coming up they can really capitalise and cement Ciara's relevancy again (which seems to be working pretty well at this stage) its the very thing that JIVE made her lose with their lack of confidence and support during the Fantasy Ride/ Basic Instinct era's.. Everything was so undecided, and unsupported.
As a Ciara fan from the very first moment i heard Goodies and watched the video I'm extremely positive about this album and single and really hope they pull out all the stops in supporting her. Her music is not the problem (it never has been, as she makes far better music - then 90% of the artists around today) She has every chance of regaining back some of that limelight from the Goodies and Evolution eras...
