10) The Weeknd
The Weeknd was one of the artists that really got me into PBR&B last year. His mixtapes and Kiss Land are all great and worth checking out.
Favorite Songs: Same Old Song, Wicked Games, Kiss Land, Love Me Harder w/ Ariana Grande
9) Ariana Grande
I don’t think Ariana sounds that similar to Mariah. Their tone sounds quite different (though Ariana does have a pleasant tone like Mariah) and Mariah’s voice is far more resonant and powerful, with a greater range. Though Ariana has a pretty impressive range compared to her peers. Anyway, Ariana makes it onto the list thanks to her 2014 album, My Everything. A step up from Yours Truly (released in 2013), ME had some nice bops.
Favorite Songs: The Way, Break Free, Love Me Harder w/ The Weeknd
8) Tinashe
2014 revealed one of the most exciting R&B talents we've seen in years. A FAR superior performer and artist to Beyonce, Tinashe sings and dances simultaneously without missing a step. She also has a hand in producing and writing her own material and doesn’t steal writing credits either unlike the other singer mentioned.
Favorite Songs: 2 On, All Hands on Deck, Feels Like Vegas

7) Zayn Malik
I don't care for 1D's crappy music. But Zayn Malik makes it onto this list just for being so damn hot. By far the best looking member and the only good vocalist in 1D. His voice is sultry, and would be great in R&B, pop, and even some hip-hop influenced songs. I can see him being inspired by his background and thus delving in some South Asian music as well. Zayn will be the only member of One Direction that will have a future when the group disbands. Bookmark me. I also need him and Jay Sean to do a p*** music video together.
Favorite Songs: Moments
6) Nicki Minaj
I miss pop Nicki like crazy, but it’s hard to be disappointed when she put out such a dope hip hop album, The Pinkprint. (At least The Night Is Still Young is pop. ) Nicki Minaj is currently THE best female rapper out there. And what I really love about Nicki is how versatile she is. She can rap, sing, and her voice and sound are so unique. No matter what she does she will always have people everywhere talking and anticipating her next move because she is not afraid to take risks and mix it up.
Favorite Songs: Automatic, Your Love, Super Bass, Turn Me On, Starships, I'm Legit ft. Ciara, Beez in the Trap ft. 2 Chainz, Pound the Alarm, The Boys w/ Cassie, Lookin Ass, ChiRaq ft, Lil Herb, I Lied, The Crying Game, Get on Your Knees (featuring Ariana Grande), The Night Is Still Young
As a featured Artist: Up Out My Face (Mariah Carey), Woohoo (Christina Aguilera), Monster (Kanye West), Girl on Fire (Inferno Version) (Alicia Keys), Till the World Ends (Remix) (Britney Spears)
5) Cassie Ventura
Cassie’s discography is simply amazing. Most of it is unreleased so you will have to search for the fan made compilation, The Cassie Trilogy. Full of pop, electro-pop, R&B, and minimalist R&B goodness. Her sweet, ethereal, sometimes icy vocals can really set the mood of a song. Her fans and I are dying for another album. You don’t know the struggle.
Favorite Songs: Me & U, Long Way 2 Go, About Time, Is It You, The Boys w/ Nicki Minaj, King of Hearts, Paradise ft. Wiz Khalifa, Addiction ft. French Montana, Numb ft. Rick Ross, RockaByeBaby, I Know What You Want, All The Way Down, Addiction (Ryan Leslie), Push It, Is It You, Breathe Again, Skydiver, I'm in Love With You, 2 The Morning, F*** U Silly ft. Nicki Minaj, I'm A Lover, Can U Feel Me, Gimme That, Turn the Lights Off

4) Rihanna
I was a fan of Rihanna from the start - since Music of the Sun. I loved how she made mainstream Reggae and Dancehall songs, which really set her apart from all the other current pop stars. Then she went pop/dance-pop and delivered some of the best bangers in the past 7 years. She still injects some island flavor into her songs here and there. What I really like about Rihanna is her unique voice. When you hear her voice on the radio you instantly know it’s her. That’s what I look for in a vocalist: a distinctive, resonant voice. #R8.
Favorite Songs: Pon de Replay, Here I Go Again ft. J-Status, If It's Lovin' that You Want, You Don't Love Me (No, No, No) ft. Vybz Kartel, Music of the Sun, Unfaithful, We Ride, Break It Off ft. Sean Paul, Umbrella, Push Up on Me, Don't Stop the Music, Disturbia, Rockstar 101, Rude Boy, What's My Name? ft. Drake, Fading, Only Girl (in the World), Where Have You Been, We Found Love, Birthday Cake ft. Chris Brown, Diamonds, What Now
3) Britney Spears
I liked Britney as a kid and thought BOMT and YDMC were cute, but I really became a stan because of Blackout and Femme Fatale. Two amazing electro-pop albums. While her voice is discredited a lot, I think she has a wonderful tone and her voice is certainly distinctive. She can also sing and match the atmosphere of the song, whether it is showing vulnerability with her voice (Everytime), or haziness and darkness (Get Back). She really is a vocal actress.
Favorite Songs: ...Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Oops!... I Did It Again, I'm a Slave 4 U, Breathe on Me, Toxic, Everytime, Gimme More, Piece of Me, Break the Ice, Get Naked (I Got a Plan), Hot as Ice, Get Back, Womanizer, Circus, 3, Till the World Ends, Hold It Against Me, Inside Out, I Wanna Go, How I Roll, (Drop Dead) Beautiful ft. Sabi, Seal It with a Kiss, Big Fat Bass, Trouble for Me, Trip to Your Heart, Gasoline, Up n' Down, He About to Lose Me, Selfish, Don't Keep Me Waiting, It Should Be Easy, Til It's Gone, Passenger
2) Christina Aguilera
Even though she hasn’t released an album since 2012, Christina’s catalogue is strong enough to keep me listening to her. With the looks of a model, possessing one of the greatest voices of all time (she has an incredible 4 octave vocal range!), and amazing stage presence and charisma, Christina is easily the most talented pop star today. Which is why I’m looking forward to her new album that comes out in 2015. Just the registering of a new song on BMI, Waves, has already caused quite a buzz everywhere.
Favorite songs: Genie in a Bottle, I Turn To You, What a Girl Wants, So Emotional, Reflection, Can't Hold Us Down ft. Lil' Kim, Walk Away, Fighter, Impossible, Get Mine, Get Yours, Dirrty, The Voice Within, Soar, Cruz, Hurt, Oh Mother, Slow Down Baby, Understand, Genie 2.0, Keeps Gettin' Better, Dynamite, Lift Me Up, Not Myself Tonight, Stronger Than Ever, Little Dreamer, Birds Of Prey, Woohoo ft. Nicki Minaj, Let There Be Love, Your Body, Light Up The Sky, Army Of Me, We're A Miracle , Tell Me w/ Diddy, Moves Like Jagger (Maroon 5), Do What You Want (Lady Gaga), Castle Walls (T.I.)

1) Mariah Carey
I don’t have to say much about Mariah….she’s the best selling female artist of all time, has a 5 octave vocal range, most number 1s of all solo artists, the list goes on. I always thought Celine Dion was utterly boring in comparison to Mariah and thought that it was a joke that she is in the same so called “trinity” as Mariah. Celine’s discography is mostly generic love songs and lacks the variety of Mariah’s discography. And Mariah’s voice is much more versatile and emotive than Celine’s bland voice and thus able to take on and experiment with much more genres than her. Whoo I went on a tangent there. Now regarding 2014, MIAMTEC was everything I wanted from the living legend. It had the ballads, slick R&B songs, soul, hip-hop, club, and even disco influenced songs. And it isn’t clogged with guest rappers. Best mainstream album of 2014 hands down.
Favorite Songs: Vision of Love, I Don't Wanna Cry, Someday, Love Takes Time, Emotions, Can't Let Go, If It's Over, To Be Around You, The Wind, Dreamlover, Hero, Anytime You Need a Friend, Without You, All I Want for Christmas Is You, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Melt Away, Forever, Honey, Butterfly, My All, The Roof (Back in Time), I Still Believe, Heartbreaker, Loverboy, Lead the Way, Didn't Mean to Turn You On, Want You ft. Eric Benét, Never Too Far, Through the Rain, I Only Wanted, Bringin' on the Heartbreak, I Know What You Want (Busta Rhymes), It's Like That, We Belong Together, Shake It Off, Mine Again, Fly Like a Bird, Don't Forget About Us, When I Feel It, Migrate ft. T-Pain, Touch My Body, Cruise Control ft. Damian Marley, I Stay in Love, I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, For the Record, Obsessed, H.A.T.E.U., #Beautiful ft. Miguel, Thirsty, You're Mine (Eternal), Meteorite
