There's a Pizza Hut literally 2 minutes away from my apt so when I have a delivery I leave a $2 tip. I mean, you're wasting pretty much no gas.

I live in the UK, so I only tip if the service was exceptional. Even then, I tend not to tip more than £3. It's just not expected here.

in a restaurant, i will ALWAYS tip, unless the service was shockingly bad, which i have only experienced once.

service charges are ridiculous, though. the one awful service that i had, i still had to tip because of a service charge. yes, it is polite to tip and leave something for your server, and i will do it 99% of the time, but that doesn't mean they automatically should get it. service charges kind of make it seem like the server can be terrible and you still have to tip them. i don't think they should be allowed.

Also, isn't it in the US, servers are paid WAYYYY below minimum wage (like $2 something an hour)? So basically if you're from the US and NOT tip, you're stealing from them.

My family likes to tip 20-22%. I agree with them because you have to realize that the minimum wage for a waiter is $2.43/hr.
