My personal interpretation atm
He took a Polaroid of them so they could be in black and white like the rest of the world but it didn't work they're still in color they cant be like everyone else
this branches off two ways
media they can't hide from the press they cant have a normal relationship and blend in they are always in the spotlight in color but the color is not good it marks them so they can't hide or escape
other is the they're both gay and they try to change to be like the rest of the world but they can't of course they are color (obvious metaphor for gay) and that causes them great stress under the spotlight cause they can't be themselves hence screaming
either way its definitely about trying to blend in escape and realizing you can't until you get 'out of the woods'
Or maybe she says "So are we?"
