The song breaks the record for the highest debut ever on Adult Pop Songs, while tying for the best start on Pop Songs
Taylor Swift sets a record for the highest debut in the history of Billboard's Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart, where "Shake It Off" blasts in at No. 9.
On the Pop Songs chart, "Shake" soars in at No. 12, tying the record for the best-ever launch.
The fact that She has only been a pop star for a week and She has already smashed a radio record, scored a #1 debut, sparked controversy with a music video, sparked controversy with an outfit, sparked controversy by lipsyncing...
The VMAs performance was disappointing. I was hoping she would do something more memorable. In the back of my head I was like "please jump Taylor, jump, jump" when she was singing the bridge. Also, the vocals were pretty bad but I expected it because the song doesn't suit her vocal style. You could hear it in the song that the verses didn't even sound like her from how much they edited her voice.
On a brighter note, the records snatch and her lead on iTunes.
Why did I stan for a country singer sell out doing pop songs now that she's flopping with country and has mediocre vocals and cant even dance I can't.
I still love her though
She knows she can't dance, and she knows her vocals aren't the best. She was just having fun, your taking it way too seriously. And she obviously didn't sell out so stop.
"Shake" also sets marks for the most first-week plays on each chart. With 2,813 on Adult Pop Songs, it passes the 1,909 first-week plays tallied by Maroon 5's "Maps" when it entered at No. 16 last month. (The first single from the band's Sept. 2 album V holds at No. 3 on the chart.) On Pop Songs, the 8,326 opening-week plays for "Shake" topple the 6,045 plays drawn by Timberlake's "Suit" in its first week.
"Shake" also debuts on Adult Contemporary at No. 21 and, perhaps surprisingly, given the song's sound and Swift's self-acknowledged segue from country to pop music on 1989, it nudges onto Country Airplay at No. 58. KSCS Dallas led all Country Airplay reporters with 15 plays for "Shake" last week, followed by WSIX Nashville (10); no other panelist played it more than four times.
They're clearly pressed because she's doing so well.
Everyone was looking forward to her flopping this era.
Now they don't even have the country excuse.
