No shade, because I love her, but her videos are usually a non-event. They've progressively gotten better over the years but overall they're very bland. For the first 8 or so years her videos were extremely boring, vanilla and bland since she was under Tommy's image so I don't really take those into consideration. Even now, though, she primarily focuses on the ~glamor~ and her ~beauty~ as opposed to a very eventful and thrilling video and hasn't really deviated from that style aside from a very few selection of videos where there's a story or exciting plot.
It's not a bad thing, but her videography isn't worthy of a Vanguard award imo. Her strong suits are in production, composition, lyrics, and vocals and she definitely deserves more recognition in every aspect of those.
I don't see why not, they gave Justin Timberlake one and none of videos are great tbh.
The award isn't just about videos (and all of Justin's videos are different and good to great anyway):
Over the course of MTV history, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award has been presented to exemplary musicians who have made an incredible and long-lasting impact on pop culture.

So JT has made a bigger impact on the music scene than Mariah Carey, ok Duca whatever?
Mariah Carey is one of the few major female singers that has inspired the generation of pop girls we had in the last couple of years like Rihanna, Beyonce, Christina and now the younger generation like Ariana Grande.
