Just because people flop more than ever, doesn't mean we should lower standards to make them feel better for underperforming
People arent flopping illegal downloads and the economy are killing the music industry... poverty is increasing more and more and people rather download for free than pay for music
IDK why Americans have such a hard time wrapping their head around a lower threshold. Pride, maybe?
Countries around the world do this when the market goes up or down substantially. The US is eventually going to only have one or two albums crossing the 1 million mark very soon at this rate
It's based on local population figures!
The US has 300 million people,1 million as platinum isn't too much!
This is the BASE section aka the questions/opinions section. You should have known by now this was not official or else it would be in the CHARTS or MUSIC section.

Americans don't have anything to do with the decision to change the certification amounts, are we supposed to petition or something?

I don't know where you're from but here we use question marks (?) for questions

it's more than just the percentage of the population. back then, 2m is Platinum when it was A LOT fewer people. More people doesn't mean more record sold

You're forgetting about the "recently replied threads section". The 'base section' excuse is invalid regardless.
In my country platinum used to be 300k, now it's 100k. I too don't understand why it hasn't changed in the US. Albums released from here on out should be eligible for a gold certification with something like 300k sales and for a platinum certification with 600k sales.
If that were to happen Hannah Montana's remix album (Non-Stop Dance Party) and ARTPOP would have the same certification. Let that sink in for a moment.

Let's pretend 500k is the new platinum, How many platinum albums does your fave have now?
