In theory yes and for the first part of the book he's indeed the best choice but I don't trust him to handle what happens after the twist.
Nick goes to some pretty dark places and it's not an easy character at all. And Rosamund Pike better deliver. This is a character for the ages if played right, Glenn Close and Kathy Bates as examples.
