Joyride 3 - NOT recommended. Mediocre actors, horrible plot, unbearable acting (some actors couldn't hold their fvcking laugh from time to time). Hope it flops.
Don't put King's name in those movies.... Joyride is a classic , the sequel tho
I didn't see the Purge, but I did sit and analyze a lovely little Netflix horror I've been waiting for!
The House of the Devil (2009) is a calling card for the atmospheric, satanic cult films of the 80s. The setting and costumes are down pat, but Ti West's finesse with camera angles, light, and saturation are what make the film genuinely feel like it came three decades earlier. That is not to say it feels dated. Rather, it all adds to build a sense that one is watching a classic film that has influenced countless directors and writers since. The film is not perfect, however. Characterization is strong, but the most memorable people are often reduced to comparatively minor moments in the film, paling in comparison to the massive amount of time in which the main character is on screen by herself. Her portrayal felt naive and stereotypical, a lovely, if not intentional, throwback to 80s slasher horror.
Despite the misuse of one of the strongest comic horror performances I've seen (points to you, Greta Gerwig), his film is still one to add to your watch list. Knowing that this movie was released in the same year as the technologically based Paranormal Activity only lends to the old adage that this film tries (and succeeds) to prove: Sometimes, the oldest tricks in the book are the best ones.
Not sure if y'all into foreign horror films but this one by Guillermo Del Toro is flawless.

The trailer doesn't do it justice but the movie is really well made and well acted.
