Adele has 3 multi-million selling #1 singles though.
I understand your point though, theoretically the further into the album run, the trickier it will be to get the sales to push a song. However with streaming and radio making up a large proportion of Hot 100 points, both of which have been kind to Katy already this era, it's entirely possible for her to smash once again.
