The new wave of: 2013
Many listeners got their first taste of Sampha when he teamed up with Drake, Katy B and Solange Knowles but REAL fans of him for his collaborative work with SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Koreless, Lil Silva, and others. His voice is too angelic and distinctive to be drowned out in samples of his work or used as a feature by others. 2013 will go down as the year that Sampha blew up with Dual, we haven't heard much of anything from him in 2014, but hopefully next year in 2015 he'll finally drop a studio album!
Other popular tracks:
"Beneath The Tree", "Hold On (with SBTRKT)", "Play (with Katy B)", "Valentine (with Jessie Ware)"
“Water Me” may take a while to build up but once it does, it is by far the most disturbing and fragile, yet gorgeous track here. This is a taste of her entire second EP which is such a distinctive, cohesive sounds being brought into R&B.
This is one of her best songs, and easily better than her other song in the rate. I'm a little pissed, not gonna lie. Papi Pacify should have been in this. Top ten for sure.
