FOR 13 years of his career JAY-Z never had a Top3 song as a lead artist, while Nelly Ville, Kanye West and 50 Cent were all collecting multiplatinum singles smash and hits after hits. he never missed Platinum (never had a Gold album) 75% his albums are multiplatinum. and he lasted longer than those 3 rappers (Kanye already struggling for Platinum 10 years into his career). He was even a King and an hip hop icon before Empire State Of Mind landed @ #1 in 2009.
so yeah, Beyoncé will continue to watch her peers careers burried years after years and in 10 years time we'll all be like "damn, guys did you notice Beyoncé outlast "_____" and "______" and "_____"."
That's kind of a reach Every pop star wants hits, its not like Beyoncé is some hipster artist who tries to avoid being successful. She said herself that she was worried that her surprise album would flop so she obviously does care about sales and charts.
What records are you talking about? She sold less than Unapologetic or Emeli Sande's latest album.
...unapologetic had two huge worldwide hits. how is that even remotely comparable? if she's still near unapologetic's numbers without hits that just proves that if rihanna didn't have hits, she'd be a weaker album seller than beyonce, so what does that even prove?
Absolutely. 4 flopped with no lead singles, and BEYONCE, the very definition of a frontloaded era, flopped after the "SURPRISE ALBUM" hype wore off (Has it even charted in the last few months?)

It's interesting when someone compares Unapolgetic sales to Beyoncé sales when Apologetic came two years ago and had a #1 single but only sold a bit more than BEYONCÉ which has no #1s and was only released seven months ago.

4 and beyonce era both had hits, and plenty #1 hits, at least in its core format- urban, rhythmic. On BH100 DIL went #2 and had had more impact on pop culture than most of #1bh1000 have had.
