Definitely. Scarlett is the perfect fit for these roles (though she is just as perfect in high-drama too; brilliant actress). Jolie definitely paved the way for that in the late 90s/early 2000s and then Beckinsale and Jovovich continued on that tradition. Things are looking forward to female centered films, especially with Maleficent and Gravity's draw.

You're Next is the most rewarding horror film I've ever seen. The protagonist actually makes sure the bad guys stay DOWN. I'm pretty sure I clapped at some point

Yes! Good examples of those that definitely paved that way.
