Maleficent #4 Movie Worldwide with $521 Million
Angelina Jolie does it again! Her movie "Maleficent", which was solely sold on her name, opened in China this weekend to $20 million. All of this while in its 4th weekend at the North American box office, the movie is still in the Top 5 with $13 million this weekend.
After only 24 days in release "Maleficent" so becomes the #4 movie worldwide of 2014 with $521 million in the bank thus far. The movie is now poised to make around $210 million domestically and at least $600 million worldwide. Who else? Get the people's money, Queen.
"Maleficent" still has one big market to go, which is Japan, where Disney is coming off their box office hit "Frozen".
Elsa and Anna spent their 15th consecutive week at the top spot in Japan this weekend for a total of $235 million. We'll see if Angelina Jolie can dethrone the global starlets in 2 weeks. La Jolie is definitely not leaving anything to chance and already set foot on Japanese soil to promote her box office hit.
