One of the Boys only had 47/100 score on Metacritic. Teenage Dream only had a 52/100 score. Part of Me is widely regarded as one of the most mediocre songs of all time. E.T. was also critically slammed. She also has no Grammy Awards. I could go on but you get the point.

Why is Katy so underappreciated by the critics?

OOTB is a semi-decent album but the raving homophobia in Ur So Gay and, to a lesser extent, IKAG is off-putting
TD is a collection of sterile, poorly written, radio-pandering songs

Because she is basically seen as the image for Dr Luke inc. I feel like if she went back to her OOTB style she would have more acclaim.

She isn't underappreciated. She gets the exact amount of appreciation she deserves, which just doesn't happen to be very much.

Because she is just very unoriginal and very basic, she brings nothing new to the table and her music is very predictable and repetitive.

I have to admit her music is less basic on Prism, but she still has a long way to go until she can get dat critical acclaim!

That's why OOTB is her most critically panned album.

Hasn't her album rating gone up with every new album? I like that she's gradually increasing and being better critically received with each album even if it's nothing stellar. I don't even understand why people value critics opinion so much. It's not like the public buys things based off of these critics
