It's the same issue Lorde had to face, Gwyneth Paltrow with the n*as in paris photo, and Madonna with calling her son a ni**a on IG, etc.
Is it wrong for me to appropriate "stereotypically-black" culture? (For eg, jam to 'My Ni**a' in the car with my white friends?
Or is it wrong for you to accuse me of such a thing since you yourself are then promoting the idea of this stereotype?
In my own personal belief, I think it IS wrong, but in varying degrees, and depends on the action in question and the CONTEXT of that action.
Therefore, miming a black accent that has become a STAPLE in rap music through the decades is the least dangerous thing she could have done, and should be not guilty of nothing more than that.
Miley's crime, on the other hand, was something far more awful. Slapping large black ladies on their butts and having them twerk in her videos as sex objects while singing a song produced by a black producer, is a bit too far dont you think? Let's not forget about 23 too.
I love Miley and I forgive her for such appropriations. Many people forgive or don't even care about such things since it is all in the name of 'art'. But it is from the innocent-looking medium of art that most ideas spread. And we should be careful of that...
