I don't really blame her for resenting DWUW.
From what I understand, it was on the cutting room floor until (presumably) it was felt that ARTPOP needed more hits and Troy/label thought an R Kelly feature would help due to his comeback and urban appeal. When DWUW overrode Venus as the second single, I imagine she felt that was a slap in the face considering it (Venus) was probably created last minute to be 'the hit' after Troy/label expressed doubt. That could have been taken in her stride, but then there was the pulling of the music video and R Kelly's personal drama getting involved. Then she did what everyone was asking her to do by performing with and featuring Christina, but people didn't buy it.
Not to mention, the song itself is quite bitter. Perhaps underlining all of that ****, she doesn't feel particularly good singing it.

I think it had a lot to do with him, but at the same time, I think something besides that had to happen.

Hm. I didn't know it blew up in the UK. That's a shame. I feel like something had to have happened behind the scenes, like every project she and Terry Richardson did is like delayed and not mentioned anymore. It's odd.
Anywho, they really need a single to help the tour some. G.U.Y. never took off. They should just rush release SOMETHING to give it a buzz. Or even the DWUW music video now.

I didn't realise so many people hated on Money Honey. That song is a genuine bop and could have smashed in '09

Toanythingtaboo, that's the problem with her. She feels it's a slap in the face, while it really isn't - if your version is close to the truth. The label/Troy wanted her to have a hit, not to flop with Venus.
I feel like both songs, Venus and DWUW, are great songs and it has really little to do with actual music. She's making great pop songs, but she has a label and a manager for a reason, she should listen to them from time to time.
Anyway, Gypsy should close the era.

The R Kelly thing was not covered in the UK. I don't think it even received that much attention in the US.

Of course, it was not covered in national daily news, but there were articles here and there and whenever you ask people about R.Kelly, one of the first things your hear is that he's a pedophile.

At the end of the day, Troy and her label want her to be as successful as she can be. That's fair enough (it's a business and she's an investment), but we don't know how they go about enforcing/encouraging that. Presumably, Troy's actions weren't acceptable for Gaga. From what she's said, it sounds like he was prioritising profits over her well-being and artistry too much.
There needs to be a balance here. Gaga should understand that if she wants to be a top tier popstar, then she has to play the game and think strategically. In return, her team should understand that Gaga is a person and an artist, who can't simply be a product and brand - she has to be creatively satisfied or she'll rebel.

Didn't troy make a deal with beats or whoever it was, that the song featured in the commercial would be a single, i heard that somewhere, and that's why they went with that over Venus

Ugh talking about DWUW just makes me mad and sad
And I totally agree with toanythingtaboo. She needs deliver that balance in her next album or else she'll really fade away.

Hopefully ARTPOP was an eye-opening and humbling experience for them.
BTW clearly wasn't enough of a kick up the ass because it was still too successful to incite major change. They were complacent, and now there's really no avoiding the reality of their situation. They have to shape up.

She needs to either change up her genre/image next era or bring the TF/TFM eccentric popstar back with infectious music.

I really doubt that. Gaga's probably more defiant and stubborn than ever now.

I just don't think TF/TFM/BTW Gaga model of 'weird blonde girl in costumes does dance/pop' is going to work anymore. At best, it'll be a Katy/Rihanna affair of average success with a big hit here and there. It certainly doesn't seem like a good idea to work with the same producers. If she wants to be the legend she craves, she has to evolve.
Fortunately, a lot of reinvention is superficial with a new look...but unfortunately, she's changed her image so much that it's not as easy as that.

Sounds... reductive.
Can Gaga ever change her looks into something recognizable? She's done it all already.

She needs to do an era like that Stevie Nicks photo shoot: simple, plain, but extravagant. Just her, the piano, and Rick Rubin. Could do her wonders.
I don't think a rock influenced album (more so than BTW) would be a bad idea either.
