Well considering Mariah achieved her #1's without Itunes, Youtube, Spotify and a re-release; her achievements are more impressive.
She had much stronger radio support then.
And I don't understand your rationale behind this. Itunes & Spotify makes it easier for less established artists to reach the chart, while in radio-ruled days, you only needed a deal and you were guaranteed a high chart peak.
