If Selena were to release a single right now, I guarantee you it would debut way behind Problem, but in the long run, would end up outselling it. Just how Selena works, she has never been a front-loader.

So you're telling me Selena COMMANDS attention from the public/media, but when she releases a single it struggles to make the top 16 on iTunes off her name alone? That doesn't seem right. The way she sells so sluggishly (but well enough in the long run) makes it sound like she's just an afterthought to the public who are aware of her but don't really give enough of a damn about her to RUN when she releases new material.
Ariana on the other hand annihilates the competition on iTunes with a nearly 90% lead over the next song. "Just because of her fanbase!!!", you might say? VERY shocking that Ariana sees more support in such a small select group of people than Selena sees from the whole general public.

Not WW, because she's not that established yet (plus she's not doing an awful lot of promo. Didn't she visit the UK once and spent some time in Japan? Wow much promo), but she's currently slaying them in the US, which is the main market.

Selena and Demi weren't WW when they started out yet look at their WW album sales.

The song is really cheesy and too bubblegum pop-esque. I'm pretty sure Ari changed her mind about her sound around a year and a half into making the album.

Ariana has topped iTunes only twice and not for so long (just like Demi), and with lead singles. The song it has a lead over is old. Ariana is like One Direction when they release promo or lead singles, very front loaded. Selena's Slow Down and Love You Like A Love Song might not shoot straight to the top but they impact the Hot 100 better than Baby I or other Ariana songs.

Kiss & Tell and Don't Forget sold like, what 100k outside of the US? Yours Truly sold more than that in just Japan.

You mean look at the certification their debut albums got YEARS after their were initially released?
Let's compare that in 4 years when YT also has the chance to get a gold certification in Argentina.

Umm...Come & Get It was #2 on iTunes (I wouldn't call that struggling to make the top 16...) What's with you and iTunes! It's BILLBOARD that's important.
If you wanna talk peaks so badly, I'll just say Come & Get It charted higher than The Way and that's it.
Sluggishly? look at the receipts again...

maybe so. But Selena has a big fat Disney label that drags her down (Ariana doesn't have that problem, she basically gained relevance through the internet which is how most teen celebs pop up in our current times), she's [Selena] still not all that respected musically but is well liked. And honestly, her hardcore fanbase isn't that great. However, as the GP is exposed to her stuff, she usually wins them over, which is why she ends up slaying the rest in the long run.

It took them like over 3 years to get certifications for their albums meanwhile it hasn't even been a year since Yours Truly and its ~70k from reaching Gold in the US alone

Why are Selenators trying it seriously?
Ariana has MUCH better sales for a debut.
Ariana actually HAS critical acclaim.
Ariana already worked with big stars.
Ariana already making IMPACT.
Ariana already outpeaking her peers.
There's literally no way to spin this.

let's face it, Selena never comes in with a bang. She did get to #2 on iTunes once the song developed momentum, she didn't debut there. It struggled so hard to stay top 20 that first week.
But I'm okay with that, because her longetivity and final sales always make up for it.

The fact that y'all are struggling to prove veterans of the music industry have more star power than a debut artist..

No...let's back up.
Kiss & Tell was released on Sept. 29 respectively. It was certified Gold on March 5th of 2010. K&T received 2 singles and not much promo in terms of performances at key events and shows
Yours Truly (great album by the way) was released on Sept. 2. It hasn't been certified Gold yet it received 3 singles, and a bunch of promo (AMAs, and other events).
I wasn't even talking about Argentina...

I love Ariana a lot, but it is you guys who are struggling to see that Ariana is still not as big. Just look at page 2 or 3 with the receipts of their previous eras. It's as easy as that. And Ariana is not a debut artist anymore.

Come & Get It peaked at #16 the first day it was released but again, try to understand the context in which I state facts so you don't have to keep blurting out information that isn't really relevant to what I'm saying. C&GI reached #2 for like a day after WEEKS of performances at the MTV Movie Awards, Dancing With The Stars, Radio Disney Music Awards, I mean slay media-giant who needs that much of a shove just to make the top 5 on iTunes for the first time in your career after 4 albums.
Ariana is still a newcomer and is competing (and coming out on top) with Selena and Demi who are supposed to be ~established~ artists. VERY sad.
