Here’s what I’m pissed about.
It’s not okay to take my race and make it seem like a silly exotic culture of bright toys and cutesy colors. She basically makes the Japanese seem like weeaboo “kawaii” children and objects rather real people. She infantizes the Japanese and makes them seem like life size dolls.
The japanese culture is made to seem like a culture of weeaboo cutesy children instead of a culture of rich and complex history.
This video isn’t racist because of fashion. It’s racist because of the way she portrays the Japanese race.
And if you still don’t get it, imagine this.
A music video where it’s all Italians in a sexy outfit. All there is is a **** ton of pizza. They use words like “Mama Mia! Give me pizza!” And give them tacky-ass fake mustaches.
Or imagine a music video about gays and using the stereotypes of sassy and shopping and sparkles. Giving them the fake accent and saying “FAAABULOUSSSS!!”
That’s basically what she did but with the japanese culture.
