Apparently. Nowadays it's not that risky as long as the mother takes antiretrovirals while pregnant but back then it probably would've been a very different story.

This is exactly how my mom contracted Hepatitis C. From a blood transfusion back in 1974 when she had my oldest brother Tom.
It's crazy to think how many people got viruses from blood transfusions back then. I know of a few other people who got Hep C the same way my mom did too.
Wow that really is a sad story! Least he's got pennies to spare on getting her the best help possible now.
