Netizen's went in....
Quote:
Is KPOP Growing In Europe?
1. [+489, -46] Did you guys all know? That the media hypes K-Pop as being famous worldwide but in reality, anyone who listens to K-Pop is treated like anyone who listens to J-Pop in Korea.. an otaku. Foreigners don't know about K-Pop aside from the most famous Psy and you know how all of the K-Pop concert videos do close-ups on foreigners? They're the minority... They just pan the camera where the most foreigners are. The rest are all Korean.. I don't get why K-Pop is so hyped up when it's not that famous overseas ㅋ
2. [+430, -8] It makes me proud but I remember in MBC or somewhere that had a concert, they gave out free tickets to foreigners to fill up their seats so articles like this just seem like media play.
3. [+338, -16] As a student studying abroad in Canada, I don't know how anyone can think K-Pop is famous worldwide. When I saw an article about the Wonder Girls ranking 4th or 3rd on a Canadian chart, I wondered where in the world they got that information from. Aside from Psy, no one knows anything about K-Pop artists.. and where did people get information about CNBLUE being popular in South America? No one in South America knows them aside from students studying abroad there. Of course, aside from Psy, that is.
4. [+143, -10] Well I hope they perform safely..
5. [+75, -5] The gaming industry brings in >>>>>>>>> income compared to K-Pop. Stop media playing about K-Pop and invest more in the gaming industry.
6. [+72, -5] Think about it this way. Not a lot of Koreans know about One Direction, barely even know the names of any of the members. There are just as many who don't know Katy Perry or Ke$ha. In the end, people who are interested in it will listen while the rest don't care. It's just that the particular fan base that does listen to K-Pop is getting larger now.
7. [+67, -2] As a student studying abroad in Germany, I've seen people who don't even know where Korea is over the past two years... The first thing they think of when you say Korea is a divided country at risk of war. I've met one person who knows K-Pop, one who knows SNSD.
8. [+61, -7] Call it Hallyu all you want, K-Pop is just a genre listened to by the minority overseas, like the rock fans in Korea.
9. [+35, -8] People in Europe or North America listen to K-Pop songs and scoff, asking if it's a real song and not trash... And anyone who likes K-Pop over there is treated like an otaku. Don't let the media fool you.
10. [+40, -0] I read interviews from reps over in Europe about KBS and other big company concerts in Europe being canceled because tickets weren't sold. The Hallyu hype is a bubble.
11. [+63, -23] There was an interview on European teens being asked about K-Pop and 20 out of 30 didn't know what it was while the few that did only knew Psy. When shown Super Junior or SNSD music videos, they said only otakus would watch something like this. The ones who listen to K-Pop are a minority... foreigners don't care about K-Pop at all, it's embarrassing how Korea keeps hyping it up like this ㅠㅠ Stop
12. [+45, -5] Just like we can't expect the majority of Koreans to know about foreign artists, we can't expect the majority of foreigners to know about K-Pop artists.
13. [+44, -5] It's a bubble ㅋㅋ There are people in Germany, England, and Spain who flat out don't even know where Korea is.. as if they'd know K-Pop ㅋㅋㅋ
14. [+40, -1] Pathetic how media play about this is still going on
15. [+43, -6] I live in France and nobody knows about K-Pop here. I've never seen one K-Pop album sold in record stores. Stop the media play, it's embarrassing at this point.

However Koreans know who Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Rihanna are WE all got exposed. We are the minority.

nn here in Australia I've only ever seen one k-pop album sold in stores (PSY's GS mini) and it's just one singular copy in the miscellaneous section that hasn't moved in at least 10 months. It was still there the other day.

I just watched an SMTOWN concert and ugh, I am in full stan mode. The roster is incredible.
All the performances were great, I legitimately enjoyed every single one.

SMTOWN '12 in Tokyo is legit like one of the best concerts I've ever seen So many great performances. The SMTOWN concerts in the US feel kinda pitiful in comparison.
What I would give to attend a concert at Tokyo Dome

That's the one I watched! SHINee (+ Sehun) stomping in the water was probably my favourite part.
Also "Electric Shock" -> "Sherlock" -> "Paparazzi" was such a powerful run, nonstop slayage.

I forgot to mention Yunho sprinting from one side of the stage to the other continuously in "Somebody to Love" nn he was really feeling it.
Key was noticeably energetic, like you could tell he was giving his all the entire time especially when he picked up all of Minho's lines.

I went to a K-pop shop in London, but I've yet to see a circulated store selling a K-pop CD, even Psy.
And in regards to no one knowing K-pop artists, no one should be surprised since they're hardly globally renowned. Same goes for some Western acts, I have friends who don't know what Kesha looks like.

The lies on this quote...
I just saw Miss A and Shinee latest MV on TV (in between some other MV).
At the Virgin Megastore there were an Asian section with Kpop (now it's closed, there are no Virgin on France anymore)
