Janet definitely did pave the way for Beyonce, especially as a sex symbol and dancer. Critics constantly point out similarities in what Bey does and she always mentions Janet as one of her biggest influences. But Janet's always been more comparable to Britney and Rihanna IMO.
And for those unaware, Janet and Beyonce were supposed to collaborate for a soundtrack during the DJ era but it was canceled after the Superbowl incident.

Well yes Madonna is bigger, but she also put out more albums. Janet never rushed her albums out and Janet gets respect. Her awards, tributes, accolades proves that. Most pop girls even male artists takes a page out of Janet's book. Whether people want to give that credit or not.
By the way Madonna was never blacklisted the way Janet was. So that was probably more than likely the younger generation is not hip to her. They blocked her on radio, MTV, vh1 etc.

Yes she was . Madonna was blacklisted from radio after the American life video controversy. The only reason why her career didn't die was because she found a way to maintain a high profile despite not being played on radio (photoshoots, public appearances etc). She also shifted towards touring more often which was a smart move, look how much money madonna makes on her tours, more than any other pop star, Janet should've done the same.

She might not have had radio support during that era and after but she was NEVER blacklisted in the way Janet was.
Janet had some of the biggest conglomerates in the world against her for years after they were all fined. The Superbowl incident changed the entertainment industry and censorship forever, the effects of what happened to Janet are in no way comparable to anything that happened with Madonna.
Janet couldn't tour right away because the industry retaliated against her so badly and all her planned sponsors turned against her after it, that's why she didn't until a few years later. She already had the entire era planned before the incident and blacklisting changed everything.
