the reason the GP likes katy perry, for example, way more is that katy knows exactly what she is: a pop star who makes 50% really fun music and 50% more deeper/meaningful music to which everyone can relate. she's the perfect comb., her music isn't ART and she knows that.

I don't think that the GP sees Katy has 50% deep music though. She as under five singles that could be considered deep, and none of them are her best known songs.

Pretention, by definition, is different than what you're seeing in P!nk and Beyonce fans' signatures though. It would be pretentious of them to say they stan for talent if P!nk and Beyonce weren't very talented.
